Each year SkillsUSA Massachusetts holds six District Conferences throughout the state to determine which students will be invited to the upcoming State Conference, held April 28th – 30th. District Conferences are held February 24th-25th for Districts 1, 2 & 3 and March 8th-10th for Districts 4, 5 & 6. Each school sends up to four students to compete in each competition. The competitions at the district level consist of written tests in SkillsUSA – employability skills, written trade knowledge and OSHA safety skills.
I have had the pleasure of not only competing at the District Conference all 4 years as a student but I have also been able to attend multiple District Conferences, including attending all 6 districts for the past four years. At each district the students arrive in the morning and experience a smaller version of the opening ceremonies, after the opening ceremonies student competitors are escorted to the competition areas to compete in their competition. Once all of the tests have been completed students can attend the social event put on by the alumni with our DJ, former SkillsUSA member Justin O’Halloran. Finally it is time to reveal the names of the students who will be invited to compete at the State Conference. Every year our volunteers do an amazing job helping the state staff and all of the students throughout the day. Without each and every one of our volunteers taking time from their busy schedules the conferences would not be as successful as they are.
Thank you to all of our volunteers and good luck to all of the students competing in this year’s District Conferences.
